Campfire on the Homefront

This fire pit recreates a campfire setting on a New England lakefront property designed by YardApes, based in Connecticut. The stacked stone, pebble floor and handiwork in the design of the wooden chairs creates an inviting entertaining spot.

Gorgeous Gathering Spot

Studio Outside Landscape took advantage of the sunset and western views in positioning this metal fire pit and seating on a Texas property. The space is immersed in native vegetation and flowering native perennials that provide color through most of the growing season, according to the company, which won an American Society of Landscape Architects award for the project.

One With Nature

A movable fire bowl nestled into newly established colonies of bayberry, winterberry and fern extends the use of a Maine garden beyond dusk. Slabs of lichen and moss-covered granite are used as benches and form a firewood crib. The property is within Acadia National Park along the western edge of Somes Sound on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design won an American Society of Landscape Architects award for the entire project.

Surrounded by Stone

Look closely and you'll see this stone fire pit's design is a bit unusual. The fire pit kit is perched on pillars of veneered stone and topped with Indiana limestone. The Minnesota paver patio by Southview Design is surrounded by a veneered-stone seat wall, also topped with Indiana limestone. It creates a captivating setting on the edge of the woods.

Bucolic Moment

In a pastoral setting, whether a farm, family homestead or in a new community like Serenbe, near Atlanta, you simply need logs and stones to create a fitting fire pit.

Lakefront Illumination

Lake home interiors often have a rustic focus, which can extend to outdoor amenities such as a waterside fire pit. The rough edges of the fire pit give it an unpolished, more natural, appearance.

Barrel Beauty

For rustic elegance, look for products with a sense of age. The Vin De Flame Reserve Wine Barrel Fire Pit, sold through retailers such as Authenteak, is built with old wine barrels, then hand sanded and weatherproofed.

Texture Choices

When trying to create a rustic look, opt for pavers that appear to be chiseled, such as these irregular-shaped Belgard pavers with the look of flagstone. The blocks used to create the fire pit have a rough-hewn texture.
